We recognise that facing cancer is lonely. Medical solutions alone are unable to deal with the psychological isolation that is quite complex. These stresses are not limited to just the patients. Cancer touches the lives of the family members (especially children and young adults) and carers as well.
We believe that a combination of alternative therapies supplements the hard work at the hospital. For example, advice on nutrition combined with physical fitness exercises and yoga is proven to restore strength and trust in the body. In addition, traditional practices such as acupuncture, and massage can help patients feel better, assist with pain relief, and greatly improve the overall quality of life.
A combination of counselling services that addresses post-traumatic stress management for cancer survivors/family members who lose loved ones, and guidance on living with cancer can make a huge impact on the outcome and sense of well-being.
The Fund works to find the ways to sustain all such therapeutic activities that provide relief so that the hospital does not have to rely solely on the volunteers.
Above all, the Cancerfund-Galle commits to striving for wellness in a holistic way. We take the symbol of a tree as our duty to life, knowledge, wisdom, and our interdependence on nature. We see the tree as a marker of our place in the universe.
